TECHNIQUES
We build with both Swedish Cope and chink
style construction. All work is hand created. We use only
drawknives, chisels, and chainsaws. We use hand selected, dead
standing timber with diameters of 11” to 14” on the base end. Larger
diameter logs are available at additional cost. Our logs are hand
peeled with drawknives. Logs are full length, there are not visible
splices. These include the log walls, ridgepole and purlins for the
roof support system, log floor joists for the second story and all
log posts and columns.

HAND
PEELED CRAFTSMANSHIP
All logs are hand picked and hand peeled. We can clean peel logs or
skip peel to the home owner's preference. Your entire log shell is
completely built in our Montana log yard before being shipped to
your home site. So our home buyers may share in seeing their dream
turn into reality, we periodically send photos of their home in
various stages of construction. We welcome all our clients to visit
us during the hand crafting of their home if they are able to do so.
The average log shell takes about eight to twelve weeks to create in
our yard and will remain fully assembled until it is ready to load
onto our trucks.

CORNER STYLES
We offer four corner styles:
- Straight Cut
- Half Sweep
- Full Sweep, and
- Beaver Tooth.

REASSEMBLY
Legacy Log Homes will send one to three
technicians to your home site to perform the reassembly of your
custom log shell. The home owner should be present at the site to
assist our team. After the shell is reset our men will cut and
keyway all the door and window openings. They will also cut wall
slots where frame walls attach to log walls. The average size log
shell will take about two days to reassemble and another two or
three days to cut the openings and walls slots. The crane for log
handling during the reset is rented locally with an operator and is
not included in our estimate.
